“I loved (and hated) that I was taken completely out of my comfort zone every day. I dealt with angry residents multiple times a week and had to maintain my composure, being professional and kind at all times. Entrada Apartments is in a difficult location in East Village with a high homeless population and major crime issues. On top of that, our building was under construction the entire summer, so I had to find a way to make the apartments seem more desirable to be able to reach our goal of six leases per week. I had some very difficult conversations with all kinds of people who came into the office, and I had to work with many residents who were upset about a variety of things. Twice a week, my manager and assistant manager were not in the office, so I was left to run the entire office by myself for 8 hours. As an introvert, I was completely taken out of my comfort zone and forced to do all the social, conversational things that I do not like. It was an extremely challenging summer, and I had to really push myself to complete the internship to the best of my ability. That being said, I highly recommend this type of internship. It is challenging, and some days really sucked, but I grew so much from the experience. My coworkers and I became close friends, supporting each other on the difficult days and sharing stories about the crazy conversations and experiences we had each week.”
