Process development

May - August 2019 • Spencer, IN

What I liked

I enjoyed my internship at Boston Scientific. It was an amazing hands on experience working in the medical device industry. Applied knowledge from class to the field and vise versa.

What I wish was different

I wouldn’t change anything about the internship itself. However, I would recommend that the College of Engineering would require students to get internships or research opportunities on/off campus. While talking with other students from other schools, some required students to have 1-2 or more internships to graduate.

Advice

In any internship or job, t is important to accept that you will not understand everything you will be doing. It’s very important to speak up and ask for help versus guessing on what to do. “Make mistakes early, the quicker you fail the quicker you learn from your mistakes”. Even in an industry setting, you will learning something new everyday.

Sales Operations Intern

June - August 2019 • Valencia, CA

What I liked

I loved working in the medical device industry. It is clear that the employees at BSC are passionate about their work and the lives they are able to improve by doing their jobs. The team I worked on was very inclusive and so friendly that I feel I have professional contacts in them for life. I had great access to higher up executives and got exclusive meetings with many of them. The project I worked on was meaningful and entertaining and I enjoyed the execution of it.

What I wish was different

The intern process as a whole was fairly slow. I didn't have much to do at the beginning, before I was assigned an official project.

Global Regulatory Affairs Intern

May - August 2018 • Arden Hills, MN

What I liked

My location had an open and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone I talked to was open to answering my questions, and many people who weren't connected to my group or projects were happy to meet with me for informational interviews. The company really seems to value its employees.

What I wish was different

Interns in more traditional engineering roles (manufacturing, PD, etc.) seemed to be invited to more tours and had more learning opportunities. It would be cool for other interns to be involved in those as well (although it was easy enough to schedule them on my own).

Advice

Ask questions and get to know the people around you!
