About Catalina Island Marine Institute / Catalina Sea Camp

Outdoor Science Schools, outdoor education, and enrichment adventure summer camps are proud California traditions. Guided Discoveries, a 501(C)(3) California educational nonprofit corporation, is proud to be a leader in this field serving over 45,000 children, parents, and teachers annually at Catalina Island Marine Institute, Catalina Sea Camp, AstroCamp’s school program and summer camp. Guided Discoveries has served over 1,000,000 since our founding in 1978.

As experts in outdoor science schools and educational adventure summer camps, we make a positive difference in the lives of children through unique opportunities of discovery. Our beautiful outdoor locations, combined with hands on labs, field activities, adventure and traditional summer camp fun, enrich and inspire the lives of young people, building character, increasing knowledge, inspiring environmental stewardship, and developing life skills towards a productive and responsible future.

Catalina Island is a beautiful natural laboratory. Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) is an outdoor science school, providing an exciting outdoor education experience for 4th through 12th grade students from public and private schools. Our program is offered at three locations on Catalina Island – operated by the nonprofit corporation, Guided Discoveries – including Toyon Bay, Fox Landing, and Cherry Cove. During our three- and five-day programs, students and teachers enjoy a variety of experiential labs and field activities in Marine Science and Island Ecology. CIMI is a STEM-based program and a Subsidiary of Guided Discoveries, a 501(c)3 educational nonprofit corporation.

During the summer our secluded summer camp is located on a private beach at Toyon Bay on Catalina Island. Two and a half miles by water from the city of Avalon, Catalina Sea Camp is an ideal combination of land and sea for an amazing summer camp experience.
Catalina Sea Camp is an ocean adventure camp that encourages kids to deepen their understanding of marine science. Campers participate in hands-on marine biology activities, and enjoy diving, sailing, exploring the island, and participating in fun traditional camp activities.
