Child and Family Charities

About Child and Family Charities

Child and Family Charities was established in 1911 as the Ingham County Branch of Michigan Children’s Aid Society. The agency’s founding purpose was “to secure for every child the same love and the same opportunity that we would have our children receive should they be left orphaned or friendless.” Early efforts focused on services to unwed mothers, adoption, and the recruitment of foster homes for abandoned children. Over the years, the agency has evolved into a multi-service organization serving diverse populations in the central Michigan region.

For over 100 years-since 1911, Child and Family Charities has been protecting and strengthening families in mid-Michigan. Initially established as Associated Charities of Lansing, the purpose of this private, nonprofit organization is to professionally and compassionately address the needs of abused, neglected and at-risk children and youth and their families, assisting them in overcoming crisis and the tough obstacles families face in a constantly changing society.

Through 6 division and 17 programs, Child and Family Charities provides services to over 6,000 abused, neglected and at-risk children and youth and their families each year in the mid-Michigan area.

“The agency continues to thrive and grow. It is because of the outpouring of support from the local community, individuals, organizations, and corporations; that we are able to do the good that we do for so many children and youth.”
