Opportunity To Learn, Grow, And Develop – WE TRAIN!

The City of Akron offers several opportunities to learn, grow and develop. Full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees are eligible to enroll in tuition-free classes at Stark State.
Employees interested in pursuing their CDL licenses to advance can take advantage of opportunities with in-house training.
Employees have the opportunity for hands-on training and mentorship that prepares them for the tests required to obtain various EPA certifications. Employees are reimbursed for the cost of the EPA tests, upon passing the test.
Newly hired Police Officers and Firefighter/Medics attend academies tuition-free while receiving full pay. New Firefighter/Medics attend paramedic school at no cost to the employee.
Supervisor and Leadership training sessions are provided yearly for supervisors and city leaders. Employees gain valuable skills and knowledge to utilize in developing their teams.
