About Dolphin Quest

Come join the Dolphin Quest team in our exciting marine mammal internship program and gain valuable practical experience that will help prepare you for your future.

Our interns will explore a multi-faceted marine mammal program in a sub-tropical island ocean environment, beneficial for pursuing a variety of careers involving marine mammals or marine conservation education.

This international unpaid practicum is offered at our Bermuda site only and is recognized by many educational institutions towards course credits.

Who:
The candidate should meet the following criteria in order to be considered. If you have any questions about your qualifications or abilities, please email us.

-Be at least 18 years of age.
-Be a current college sophomore, junior, senior or above; or be enrolled in a college with the start date commencing within a year. ---Applicants who have been out of college for more than two years are NOT eligible.
-College course work is relevant to the internship (e.g. biology, marine science, psychology, animal science or similar) is required.
-Able to read, write and speak fluently in English.
-Have strong swimming skills. Able to complete the Dolphin Quest Swim Test.
-Physical ability to perform the duties of the internship which includes working outdoors in all-weather elements and ability to lift 50 pounds.
-Must be financially responsible for food, lodging and transportation.
-Must be able to commit to the entire internship program. Please note the start and end dates of the session to which you are applying.

What:
During the internship program you will:

-Receive an in-depth hands-on and experiential education with a focus on bottlenose dolphins in an accredited marine mammal care environment.
-Gain deeper knowledge in the sciences of animal psychology/behavior and of megafauna physiology.
-Learn about the value and range of husbandry aspects from dietary needs and preparation to collection or lab readings and health assessment.
-Develop learned skills in a practical setting such as research data collection, public engagement and animal interaction.
-Explore and experience other marine animals, habitats, conservation and the environment.
-Attend a custom designed lecture series, participate in workshops and explore personal development opportunities.
-Receive individualized mentorship from highly trained Marine Mammal Specialists
-Benefit from regular assessments of knowledge growth and evaluations of the practical applications of that learned
-Participate in outreach engagement and conservation activity to inspire change and create a connection to our animal family
