About Gregory S. Fehribach Center at Eskenazi Health

The Gregory S. Fehribach Center in Indianapolis hosts an internship program for college students with physical disabilities (mobility, orthopedic, visual, & hearing) in which students are placed in a paid internship in a position that correlates with their academic major. Internships are very important in preparing college students for employment after graduation, and this is especially true for students with disabilities. A good internship experience gives the student real-world work experience and important networking opportunities that will help in finding equitable employment after graduation.

To this point, 162 students from 36 colleges have completed a total of 318 internships, with 56 students interning in the summer of 2022. Internships are available for students who just finished their freshman year of college up to graduates within the last calendar year, and internships can be provided for nearly all academic majors. Among the 32 employers who have hosted Fehribach Center interns are: Eskenazi Health, Eli Lilly, Cummins, Ice Miller, BraunAbility, Ascend Indiana, the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, and Christel House International. In addition to the paid internship, housing and transportation assistance is provided as needed, and impactful professional development opportunities are offered for Fehribach Center interns.

“I really enjoyed the atmosphere and being confident to step out of my comfort zone with the work I was given. I liked that I was able to work in a variety of areas and tour the hospital. ”
