Habitat for Humanity

worker

June - July 2020 • Asheville, NC

What I liked

I enjoyed the work and learning more about what it takes to build a home as well as the different ways to do the job, like how to hit nails and that sort of advice I got.

What I wish was different

Maybe more help with how we were supposed to do certain parts of the job

Advice

Be read to have to do a lot of manual labor, so be ready to physically fit and also to stay hydrated and eat properly

What I liked

I enjoyed networking. The tasks were educational. I enjoyed painting and organizing.

What I wish was different

The hours could have been more convenient. The scheduling and assignments were disorganized.

Advice

Safety first and don't rely on others advice, they are most likely volunteers as well!

Volunteer

September 2022 • Huber Heights, OH

What I liked

Very easy to sign up to volunteer on their website. On-site, there was a supervisor from Habitat from Humanity to help guide and teach about the build process and skills.

What I wish was different

The task for the day build assistance was mentioned on their website so that volunteers could dress prepared/appropriately for that task ahead of time.

Advice

Learn about the house's residents (ask why they are building this house, what their experience has been so far watching the process of their new house being built, and what their new house means to them). To be informed about the Habitat for Humanity mission and residency program.

What I liked

I really like the people I worked with. They were fun an energetic. I have volunteered there with my family every summer I go home. I also really like the mission of the organization. It is a place to help other get back on their feet after hard times.

What I wish was different

There are changes each time I go home, so it is hard to know where things are in the store.

Advice

Just have fun!
