What I liked

You meet and connect with people from across the globe It's awesome to see your mentees gain confidence and ability with every conversation. There are incentives in place to keep in touch with the same mentees, to be punctual, and to take pride in your work. There was extreme flexibility in this job, and when I needed to leave my position the process was easy.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more knowledge about who I was going to be connecting with. Whether that was how they rated their own English ability, or what age they were before our first meeting, as that would have helped me prepare.

Advice

I would advice you to try to get to know what each mentee is looking for in your meetings together. You can learn so much by just asking!

What I liked

I absolutely love getting to know people who share different viewpoints than I do. It is extremely rewarding to hear students express themselves in English with your help!

Advice

Learn something from your students too- whether it be about their views, culture, city, and more! You never know when your new knowledge will come in handy!

What I liked

Great real life opportunity to get to know people across the world, learn about other cultures, and help fellow students! I particularly loved getting the chance hear perspectives about current events from non-Americans.

Advice

Try to build a connection with your students - it makes for a more enjoyable experience for both of you!
