Hobby Lobby Inc

Stockman

November 2016 • Muskegon, MI

What I liked

My co-workers are a diverse group of individuals who I've learned greatly from and have enjoyed getting to know. Not to forget, it can be very uplifting when I've helped a customer find an item in the store they wanted, thanking me for my time.

What I wish was different

There are just some people out there who don't care about how they treat employees or the facilities involved, people who don't teach their kids not to touch breakables or flush the toilet (gross). I thank everyone when I witness their mere simple act of courtesy.

Advice

Retail will help you grow as a person if you let it; don't take things personally.

What I liked

Flexible hours, friendly coworkers, easy work, routine

What I wish was different

towards the end, there was a lot of drama between coworkers that made it hard to enjoy work

Advice

If you are there to work and not get involved in the drama, it is a great working environment and the hours were nice as well as the pay

Cashier

April - August 2019 • Logan, UT

What I liked

An amazing work environment, clean and organized team, fun and engaging job with flexible weekly hours.

What I wish was different

For me the most demanding aspect of the job was being on my feet for the 8 hour shift. I wouldn't change anything about the experience.

Advice

Be sure to put the customer first, a happy cashier that communicates well can resolve many issues. Don't be afraid to work hard and do the job right. Lastly, the register system at Hobby Lobby can be tricky to get to know, but once learned is easy to manage.

What I liked

The people that work there are lovely. I was able to work with classmates and enjoy where I work.

What I wish was different

The management was hard to get close to. They had changes in the management and they had a hard time finding another management member, but they finally found one.

Advice

To always stay and work, even if you don't want to work, do it. It helps more than you think and it makes it easier for you to keep your job there longer.

Sales associate

May 2019 • Attleboro, MA

What I liked

I loved working with people and seeing how the retail world works in a store like hobby lobby.

What I wish was different

I wouldn’t change anything besides having a scanner at register instead of manually typing everything in. I would also incorporate customer loyalty programs for those who consistently come.

Framer

June 2016 • Arlington, TX

What I liked

I love my managers and the environment. They are really good at working around my school schedule.

What I wish was different

I wish I could get Saturdays off more frequently. Currently it’s a little difficult, especially while I’m in school because that’s the only time I can really work. We are a little short handed in the framing department and that sometimes makes it difficult.

Advice

Attitude makes a huge difference in the workplace not just for other’s sanity but for your own.

Cashier

May 2018 • Buford, GA

What I liked

The experience of a first time job is something I'll never forget. While I am personally not a great people-person, this job gets me out of my comfort zone and into the unknown. I entered the job with an open mind, and I have been pleasantly surprised. Interacting with customers on a daily basis keeps my spirits high, and while I am an introvert, this job sees me in my more extroverted side.

What I wish was different

It's to be understood that it is a retail job, and customers can get a little bit snappy at times, so if I could change people's attitudes, I would. A more likely change, however, that should be brought to others' attention, is the fact that we do not scan items. Instead, cashiers type everything in by hand. As one can imagine, the hand cramps are horrible, but the bigger issue is how slipped numbers, unnoticed, can lead to a 2.99 item being 29.99 instead... So, I pray that, sooner, rather than later, we can implement a more accurate system.

Advice

A piece of advice when taking any job, or just for life in general, is to understand that, usually, nothing is directed specifically at you. The person spitting across the counter has had a bad week, day, month, or who-knows-what, but it is essential to understand that nothing should be taken personal. If you're doing your job right, and staying calm, there's no reason to take it personal.

Full stack developer intern

May - August 2018 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

My favorite thing about working at Hobby Lobby was definitely the company culture. Everyone I worked with was so friendly, and very helpful whenever I had a question. I had a lot of fun working on my project over the Summer and I learned so much from my mentors

What I wish was different

I felt that the internship program was a little disorganized near the beginning of the Summer, because there wasn't a lot they had for me to do. It got better as it went along though, and I was still able to accomplish a lot.

Advice

Communication is super important for software developers! Don't be afraid to ask questions if you're confused about something.

What I liked

I liked the fact that I was paid and I suppose the fact that it seemed to pay better than the other entry level jobs. I also liked the things that were sold there.

What I wish was different

We had some..."interesting" people there. I kind of wish maybe those people would change their attitudes sometimes.

Advice

Don't let others get you down.
