Karamu House, Inc., is the oldest African-American theatre in the country. Our mission is to produce professional theatre, provide arts education and present community programs for all people while honoring the African-American experience. Among the notable performers who refined their craft at Karamu and later found success were visual artists Charles Sallee and Elmer Brown, literary giant Langston Hughes, stage and film actors Robert Guillaume, Bill Cobbs, Ron O'Neal, Vanessa Bell Calloway and James Pickens Jr. to name a few. Currently in it's 102nd year, Karamu is being reborn as a beating heart for the entire community.
