Silicon Design Engineer Intern

May - August 2018 • Sunnyvale, CA

What I liked

Fantastic balance of challenging work and fun events. The team really included me in impactful projects with direct cooperation with FTEs. Microsoft also puts on many events throughout the summer to build your friendship with other interns.

What I wish was different

Not much, pretty ideal internship experience.

Advice

Go out of your way to involve yourself during your internship. I had the opportunity to participate on a Hackathon project with a different full-time team that won an award, and also had many networking 1:1 sessions with upper management by cold-emailing.

The Student Experience Program provided an amazing way to network with both career professionals in my major, but also with students from the area studying and sharing similar goals.

Treasury and Capital Markets Summer Analyst

What I liked

The company culture. It's absolutely unmatched. Subsidised food was also amazing ($7 Filet that can be cut with a fork and 2 sides). Intern activities were unbelievable (Private Chainsmokers concert, free xbox one, bubble soccer, river tubing, lunch with CFO, etc..). Free rental car and hotel for the whole summer.

What I wish was different

Because trading markets started on east coast time, the day started really early.

Advice

Make a strong first impression.

What I liked

Tons of intern events to keep you busy; Seattle is an awesome city and there's tons of great hiking areas between 1 and 5 hours away; Intern Signature Event is crazy fun; because there were so many inters I always felt like there were more people to meet and more fun experiences to share as well as a close support network if ever needed.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more say in which project i got. I did not particularly enjoy my project, and I told my manager after a few weeks and he was happy to give me something else to work on.

Advice

Network within the company! If you want to return as an intern or full time, you should tell your recruiter by week 6 which team you've been talking with.

Explorer Intern

May - August 2017 • Mountain View, CA

What I liked

I was able to gain hands on experience and learn about the industrial side of computer science that I otherwise wouldn't have gained from school.

What I wish was different

I can't think of anything that I would change.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Rather than wasting time being stuck it is better to ask for help (after some reasonable amount of time trying by yourself of course).
