Technical Program Manager Intern

June - August 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

One of my favorite things about Autodesk was its unique learning culture. Everyone I interacted with was extremely open and friendly, and encouraged me to reach out to them with any and all questions. As this was my first technical internship experience since switching my major to Computer Science, this factor greatly enhanced my overall experience. I honestly felt like it was okay not to know something, which in turn made me feel safe asking questions to gain deeper understanding. I had weekly meetings with my manager, who would constantly check in to make sure I was having a fulfilling experience. She made great efforts to cater her management style to my specific needs, and was a great source of support during my time at Autodesk. Last but certainly not least, the Talent University Recruiting and Brand Organization (affectionately referred to as Team TURBO) was amazing and really made the summer a memorable experience. They organized numerous activities designed to help interns interact with each other and Autodesk leadership in relaxed settings. From tech talks to social excursions, Team TURBO played an instrumental role in ensuring all interns had a healthy work-life balance. I truly couldn't have asked for a more rewarding experience for my first technical internship!

What I wish was different

I honestly can't think of any way my experience could have been better.

Advice

Having an open mind and being willing to try new things definitely went a long way for me. Although I was originally seeking Software Engineering roles, this role stood out to me and sounded intriguing. So even though it wasn't the role I was anticipating, I still had an amazing experience and would definitely do it all over again! Also, not being afraid to ask questions took me far. I went into the experience feeling excited, but also very intimidated. Having had no prior technical experience, I worried that I would fall short and perform less than satisfactory. However, any trepidation I had soon faded over time, as I was surrounded by numerous individuals who wanted to see me succeed and gladly offered their time to support me.
