AvantGuard Monitoring Centers

Dispatch operator

January - August 2019 • Rexburg, ID

What I liked

I liked how good the environment is with such supportive leaders.

What I wish was different

I wish that I didn’t feel so stressed because it is high pressure every day. But that’s just the nature of the job.

Advice

I would say even though it is high stress, just stick with it and it’s a good growing experience. Saving lives is a big deal and we get to do it every day.

Project Management Intern

June - September 2019 • Rexburg, ID

What I liked

I really enjoyed the opportunity to see how the company’s culture brought in an attitude of service and volunteering. I enjoyed the experience I gained by leading a team and seeing our planning become reality. Avantguard is a great company with a great culture.

What I wish was different

I was working in another department of the same company for my day job and often my schedule was different from the others in my planning committee, making communication more challenging than it could have been.

Advice

Opportunities will come if you ask for them! This internship was the product of speaking with my manager to see if it would be possible.

Alarm Dispatch Team Operator

June 2017 • Ogden, UT

What I liked

I love the skills and experience that I am gaining from working here. I don't dread going to work, and every day is different. It is a serious job, and it does matter, but all the Central Station Operators get to know each other, which makes it even better. We also play ping pong.

What I wish was different

I'm still at AvantGuard, but I wish things had been explained more thoroughly when I initially got there. I felt like I had to figure a lot out on my own.

Advice

It's challenging, but stick with it and don't be afraid to ask questions. We love people that ask lots of questions because it means they're clarifying, and working to fully understand what they're supposed to be doing. Knowing what you're doing is what makes you an effective operator, and it allows you to help others and move up in the company.
