Ayuda

Social Services Intern

June - August 2023 • Fairfax, VA

What I liked

My supervisors provided regular feedback, allowed me to take charge of my own cases, and were generally very helpful whenever I needed them.

Advice

I would suggest practicing your professional Spanish as it is necessary to be bilingual on the job but also be able to speak with a certain amount of professionalism.

Language Access Intern

September 2021 • Washington, DC

What I liked

An extremely amazing group of people to work with. The Language Access Team is incredibly welcoming and supporting. I felt like I was part of the team and that the job that I was doing mattered to the organization as a whole. I was also able to reach out to other members of Ayuda and learn about the different parts of an NGO.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to spend more time with other members and talk about the work that I was doing. Because of how remote work functions, the job sometimes felt isolating. At times I felt disconnected from the organization and its members

Advice

Do not hesitate to reach out. You will get to meet great people and learn a lot if you do

Operations

June - August 2021 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I liked how task-oriented my assignments were; I could work on a project and check it off day-to-day. I also enjoyed the human resources side of the internship -- I was able to review resumes, conduct interviews, and help with hiring decisions for other interns and finance managers.
