Banco Popular de Puerto Rico

Intern

August 2020 • San Juan, San Juan

What I liked

As a rising sophomore at the time who hadn't declared her major, I really enjoyed learning about the different financial and technological areas. Furtherthermore, everyone was very open to help and communicate.

What I wish was different

I would have wished the internship would have been longer and in-person. However, due to the pandemic, this was hard to accomplish.

Advice

I would recommend people, especially young students, to take advantage of this opportunity as it can open their eyes. Additionally, I would recommend those who participate to be active and engage.

Discover Popular Virtual Summer Internship

August 2020 • San Juan, San Juan

What I liked

I liked the experience of getting to know different departments of the Bank; this gives the interns the opportunity to have a clearer idea of the department they would like to belong to in the future. It was a very complete experience, where we had the opportunity to carry out practical dynamics to put the acquired knowledge into practice.

What I wish was different

Overall I enjoyed the experience, it was virtual due to COVID-19, but I would have loved to have this opportunity face-to-face.

Advice

I would encourage all those students who are beginning their college career to take the opportunity of being part of this experience. It will provide you with basic knowledge of all the divisions that Banco Popular has, which will allow you to identify which one is correct for you according to your study area.

Internship

August 2020 • San Juan, San Juan

What I liked

What I liked about this internship was that I learned many things. In those two weeks I got to know many areas of the bank that I did not know existed and they amazed me a lot. All the people participating and in charge of this internship were very good and kind. Also, the dynamics of the activities were really great.

What I wish was different

I would have liked the internship to be face-to-face, but it couldn't have been that way for the pandemic so I fully understand it. Besides that I don't think anything should have been different because it was really cool the way it was and I'm completely grateful for that.

Advice

I recommend everyone to take advantage of this experience and pay attention to everything that is done and said to learn everything you can. I also recommend asking all the questions you have if you have any doubts.

What I liked

1. How much I learned about finance and banking. 2. The people 3. The Puerto Rican aura in the air. 4. My bosses and supervisors- they pushed me to do more by giving me more responsibilities.

What I wish was different

1. At times, I wish I was given more work.

Advice

Jump at any opportunity. If someone needs help with anything, volunteer to help. Those little ad-hoc tasks you do will allow you to move further and have more resposibility.

Data Analyst Intern

June - July 2018 • San Juan, PR

What I liked

I loved the atmosphere. Working in a bank, I expected to be rushed and on the clock, but my experience was far from that. I was very busy during my time there, yet I was never overworked. This helped me appreciate the experience and learn more than I would have otherwise. Great place to work and learn!

Intern Investment Banking

June - July 2016 • San Juan, PR

What I liked

I liked networking with people in the industry and I got to see the true day to day life of an investment banker and the work environment in the industry.

What I wish was different

I barely had any assignments, on most days I just sat on a desk from 8:30am to 5:00pm and talked to my coworkers. Ocassionally, I had to make copies and that was on an eventful day. So I wish I was given more tasks and responsibilities.

Advice

If you're interested in investment banking, don't intern here. It completely disencouraged me to pursue a career in this
