What I liked

It was a very nice environment and everyone was willing to help others so it was easier to learn how the business worked and how the applications are used. You could walk into any professionals office and they would talk to you and answer any questions that you had. The manager would bring lunch for the office a lot if we exceeded the expected number of households per month.

What I wish was different

The biggest issue was commuting to work. It was about an hour and some change to get to work due to terrible traffic in the morning. In the office there wasn't much that I can really complain about. I am still working with them and I am very happy with what I am doing and what I will continue to do. It is hard work but I am surviving and working hard.

Advice

Really one of the biggest takeaways that I got from the internship that others thinking of going into internships should think about is improving your public speaking skills and making yourself comfortable with the audience. Understanding the audience is the most important takeaway. I have many more takeaways and advice that I would be willing to share with students thinking about interning, especially with ML.

Sales and Trading Summer Analyst

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved the people. The culture at BofA is very collaborative, and the full-time employees really seem to care about the learning of the interns - it reminds me a lot of the culture here at Villanova.

What I wish was different

I wish there was an easier way to figure out who the Villanovans at the bank were. I probably should have done some sort of a search on LinkedIn, but after connecting with a bunch of them this summer, I wrote all of their contacts down and keep in touch.

Advice

Use the Villanova network! Villanova alumni will go to bat for you in the internship process, whether it be getting you the internship or helping you secure a full time job. They want to help, and you would be wasting one of the best resources that makes Villanova special if you did not use the alumni network.

Technology Analyst

June - August 2019 • Pennington, NJ

What I liked

I was able to gain hands-on experience and dive into an actual project with another intern and a mentor who helped to both keep track of our progress throughout the summer and to guide us through any difficult problems that we faced. Not only was I able to attend meetings, but I got the opportunity to lead them and to present my work to senior management in NJ, NC, FL, and NY. We had events throughout the summer where we received free ice cream, free lunches, and free merchandise. We also went to happy hours and escape rooms. On top of this, the location was very close to Princeton and Palmer Square (beautiful college town), and I got to hang out with a bunch of other interns after work.

What I wish was different

There was not much that I wish could have been different, but since my dream job location is Manhattan, I do wish they would have let me relocate - but you're allowed to relocate after 12 months on the job.

Advice

I found this internship by cold-applying online through BAML's website. I know that the chances are extremely slim for such banking/tech internships when going about the process this way, but to anyone who is doubting themselves, I'd say just go for it. You never know what could happen. If you do end up going through the process and getting the internship, make the most of it - especially if you're looking for a return offer. The managers had a lot of embarrassing stories to share about previous interns taking naps or not following directions - don't be one of those interns. Engage in the work, engage with those around you, and try your best to show them your potential.

What I liked

I liked the people I worked with and the company's goals and values. Upper management was great at being involved in your growth.

What I wish was different

I wish I had learned more in my position. Professionals were obviously very busy so it was sometimes difficult to get new tasks or projects assigned.

Advice

Be self motivated. Find pain points within the division/job and work to make them better. Don't wait to get assigned this task.

Business Analyst Intern

June - August 2020 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

My managers, mentors, and recruiters stayed in contact with me throughout the summer, and they were always there to answer any of my concerns. We were given mini-projects that allowed us to explore multiple sectors of the bank. Also, the pay is very nice.

What I wish was different

Giving the unprecedented circumstances of COVID-19, we weren't given much work. I wished we were able to work on more long-term, challenging and beneficial tasks.

Advice

Majority of the work at Bofa is team oriented, so get to know your peers and keep a steady flow of communication with your teammates.

ADP-Consumer Investments Intern

June - August 2020 • Hopewell, NJ

What I liked

I enjoyed working on the projects we were assigned because I worked with colleagues throughout the world in a remote environment. The first few weeks were focused on learning about the bank its 8 lines of business. During this time we had a refresher about many finance topics such as the markets, time value of money, etc. The remaining weeks are more focused on your specific division where you will meet your mentors and perform work directly related to the role. I enjoyed connecting with my mentors on a weekly basis. By the end of the internship I realized this specific role wasn't for me but I enjoyed my time at the bank

What I wish was different

Due to COVID-19 the internship was fully remote. I would have loved to been in person so that I could engage with colleagues face to face rather than virtual. Sometimes I found myself with a lot of downtime throughout the day.

Advice

Find ways to network with every one you possibly can. Learn as much as possible by asking as many questions as possible. Strive to get your SIE license by the end of the internship if possible or even before you start the internship. It will impress your managers. if you have your SIE license by the time you interview for a full time position, you receive a bonus and will be ahead of everyone else. Work hard and be yourself, People love authenticity

Client Associate

April 2019 • Lafayette, LA

What I liked

I was able to assist the financial advisors with the organization of their books of business. I worked directly with clientele regarding the status of their accounts and information to make sure everything was accurate and up to date. I made my own schedule and worked alongside the full time employees where I learned all the processes and procedures.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to assist the advisors with more investment related work. In the coming months, I'll be involved with the analysis and offering my investment insight to advisors for individual clients.

Advice

Multitasking and follow-up are the most important aspects of working in a professional environment. You can never ask too many questions. Don't double check, triple check.
