BB&T Capital Markets

Human Resources Intern

June - August 2019 • Winston-Salem, NC

What I liked

I had the opportunity to serve as the Data Specialist and market analyst for the team of campus recruiters at BB&T. I enjoyed this work because during this time, BB&T was going through the process of their merger of equals with SunTrust Bank. I will never forget sitting down with my coworkers, watching the congressional hearing for the merger as Maxine Waters addressed BB&T and Suntrust CEOs, (Bill and Kelly) about the very work that I had been completing throughout the summer, collecting recruitment data, analyzing recruitment and campus relationship strategies, and best efforts to target minority talent.

What I wish was different

Being that the company had just started their campus recruiter team 6 months prior to my internship, I was the team’s first intern, one of three interns in the corporate office, and the only intern on my floor. I do wish that there were more programmed opportunities for me to engage with other interns, mentors, and organizational leaders.

Advice

An internship is just another opportunity to network, explore your capacities, and take in new knowledge to further develop yourself. If you take this approach to most business endeavors, regardless of any shortcomings, you will receive something beneficial out of your experience.
