Orthopaedic Research Intern

October 2017 • Royal Oak, MI

What I liked

I liked that it was hands-on and I got the opportunity to work on a published research paper. I also like the hospital environment because there are many types of jobs all located within one building. I also liked that I got to train and work with medical school students who came to volunteer in the lab.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given more of a variety of tasks to do or gotten to rotate between different areas within the lab (i.e. biomechanical testing, orthopedic implants, cell culture, etc.)

Advice

Even though I had to sacrifice some fun events during the summer or delay a few classes in the spring because I worked 20 hrs/week , it was all worth it because of the experience I have which I can put on a resume.
