Blue & Co., LLC

Audit Intern

May - August 2020 • Indianapolis, IN

What I liked

At Blue I really liked the people and the nature of the internship. The people at Blue were very welcoming and friendly. Everyone that I worked with was extremely helpful when I was learning a new task. Blue values their interns and treats them just like other staff. I liked that I got to email clients directly and that I learned by doing. Overall, I learned a ton and gained a good understanding for what a staff audit position entails.

What I wish was different

I interned during the midst of the pandemic, so my internship was 100% remote. Although I still had an incredible internship experience, I do wish that I would have been able to get some in person experience like traveling to clients and interacting with coworkers in person rather than over zoom.

Advice

My advice to other interns is to reach out for help when you need it. Since my internship was remote, my team didn't know when I had questions. I would try to figure it out myself for a few minutes on my own and then seek help if I still could not find an answer. As I mentioned above, everyone is super friendly so don’t be afraid to ask!

Reimbursement & Audit Intern

January - July 2021 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

I loved feeling like I was part of the team from day one. You'll get assigned a mentor (someone around the manager level) and a buddy (someone around the staff level), who you can go to for help with anything ranging from daily questions to life/career advice. I expressed interest in both reimbursement and audit, and they let me rotate between the two departments. I think the autonomy was the best part- they will trust you to stay on top of your work, and are right there by your side when you get stuck. I was allowed to directly email and call clients, be a part of team meetings, and go out on fieldworks. If you're looking for an internship where you'll be treated like an equal, like a staff member- this is it!

What I wish was different

I wish there were more intern bonding events or check-ins, but with Covid still being a huge concern during the early months of 2021, it made things like this a bit difficult to navigate.

Advice

The advice I was given, that I will give to prospective students, is to be a sponge. You will be working alongside a variety of individuals who all took different paths to get to where they are now, and they all hold their own unique set of expertise. Be aware of the opportunity you have in your hands, and don't let it go to waste. Get to know your coworkers, go to the outside of work events (like volleyball), and don't be afraid to say yes to something new!

Audit Intern

May - July 2019 • Westerville, OH

What I liked

The culture at Blue was absolutely amazing and the people I got the chance to work with were great. I was very excited to receive an offer following graduation and will be returning. Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of responsibility and trust given to me to do things that other first year positions would not give me the chance to see. Working as an intern at Blue was extremely beneficial and I learned a great deal about accounting and other roles within the company that I likely wouldn't have seen elsewhere.

Advice

Go into this internship, like any other internships, with an open mind and an eagerness to learn as much as you can. The first few jobs you find yourself in are the biggest opportunities to learn and grow quickly. You will get a much better idea of what you like and dislike before committing to a full-time position.
