Bonefish Grill

Waiter

June 2022 • Durham, NC

What I liked

I enjoyed that serving forced me to get out of my comfort zone, perform under pressure, and operate as a member of a team. As a result I've become proficient in communication, attention to detail, multitasking and memorization. It is stimulating work where your pay directly reflects the amount of effort you contribute, and I feel more confident and capable after joining this job.

What I wish was different

I have very few complaints with my job. My manager is excellent, our system is reasonably efficient, and I enjoy my coworkers and work atmosphere.

Advice

Being my first job, there was a steep learning curve associated with my training. I would advise prospective servers to be like a sponge; as teachable and coach-able as possible. Lead with humility and an earnest desire to improve, and demonstrate this commitment in your work ethic, while taking ownership over your improvement areas.

What I liked

I liked the people and work environment. I was able to grow very quickly here.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had more hours toward the end, but that's covid for you.

Advice

Everyone should work in the service industry for at least a year. It will help you gain insight on the people in that position that will make it a more enjoyable job all the way around.

What I liked

I like the social aspect of it. And I am able to grow in my customer service type skills.

What I wish was different

I kind of wish it was not based on tip share and I had a regular salary payment.

Advice

The restaurant business is not for everyone, just prepare yourself before hand, and try not to get sucked into the drama, it is not worth it.

Marketing Intern

May - July 2018 • Tampa, FL

What I liked

Great boss, fun company, always busy and learning a lot.

What I wish was different

I wish they focused a bit more on hiring from within but they have very few entry level positions so if you’re looking for an internship to lead to a job this probably isn’t it but it is really good experience.

Advice

Be smart, proactive, organized, and take lots of notes your first few weeks.
