Boston Collegiate Charter School

Summer Intern

May - August 2018 • Dorchester, MA

What I liked

My supervisors, i.e. the principal of the middle school and the teachers that I worked with, were all incredibly helpful, respectful, and appreciative of the work that I did. Additionally, I learned quite a bit independently about curriculum development and self-organization.

What I wish was different

The organization of the summer interns themselves was a bit lacking. Preparation for assisting teachers during the school year, working on independent projects in the interim time, and teaching my own small summer school course was quite disorganized. The internship was also unpaid, which was very difficult in terms of the cost of transit and largely independent living.

Advice

Take initiative if your work seems without aim. If I ever finished a project, I would immediately find or ask for a new one to work on, which helped time move much faster and taught me a lot more about organizing my time, in addition to accomplishing more, which the employers loved.
