Boston Public Market Association

Student Intern

October - December 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I liked working independently but also liked that the employees were available to answer any of my questions. I loved the diverse tasks like taking pictures of vendor merchandise. I had a room/office to myself which offered me privacy to work on tasks undisturbed. There was another student who shared the space with me but we got along so well. We assisted each other with individual tasks but also had different tasks given to us.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more structured tasks to work on. The one main task I worked on was creating an online database and eliminating hardcopies. Other than that, you go with the flow.

Advice

Don't commit to both semesters. First, start working so you have a feel for the organization and see if you can continue in the long run. I made the mistake of mentioning I would like to continue for the spring semester and had to leave when I found another opportunity at a community health center which matched my goals.

Business Development Intern

June - August 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I really enjoyed being able to work for an organization that cares so much about fostering community and a love for food in once space. The location of the Boston Public Market is amazing and I learned so much about what it takes to run a small non-profit. Also, my colleagues were another part of my job that I loved. Everyone was smart and passionate about local food and making local food more accessible to everyone in Boston.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a little more direction/organization from my boss.
