Technology Associate

June - August 2019 • Norwalk, CT

What I liked

The opportunities for mentorship are incredibly good, especially in technology. The people are extraordinarily nice and I definitely learned more about good software engineering than anywhere else. The housing and transportation they provided contributed to an especially fun summer - went to NYC very often.

What I wish was different

The security restrictions were a bit annoying, since it was hard for me to talk about my work or explore different parts of the company's technology.

Advice

Stay open-minded of the culture and figure out its role in helping you learn more - it will be different for everyone. Try to take your project as far as it possibly goes, and ask for help if you are unsure of how your project will fit into the team goals or what other creative possibilities there are.

What I liked

Open and engaging environment with helpful full-time employees always willing to take time out of their busy schedules to help you. Interesting and challenging work. Good pay. Great benefits.

Advice

Make sure to keep your head down and work as hard as possible for the first few weeks because there is a learning curve associated with grasping the material. It will help a lot in the second half of the internship as the work becomes more challenging and intense.

Investment Associate Intern

June - August 2017 • Westport, CT

What I liked

BW does a great job leveling the playing field between interns with no economics experience and those with PhDs in economics by putting each of its interns go through a class on asset classes and investment basics. From there, they assign challenging projects that really stretch what is learned in the class. It's a great model and I learned a lot.

What I wish was different

Quite honestly, I have no complaints.

Advice

Expect a bit of a culture shock – BW has a very unique culture, so expect that it will take time to acclimate.
