What I liked

I got to work in a real office setting and see what a real business looked like. It was cool to work on the 24th floor in a tall building in the middle of Houston. My workplace was filled with lots of start ups so it was a very modern work space and I got the opportunity to network and learn what real work looks like. I got to apply the python skills I learned in COMP classes which was cool. Buck Jack is very small so the things I did actually made quite an impact on the company, I could see some of the things I implemented making the company more efficient.

What I wish was different

I wish I was paid for one, I took an unpaid internship because it was really my only option as a freshman who was not very well prepared for career fair or networking. I sometimes wish I got more guidance on what I was supposed to do because sometimes I was given very general goals and not really told how to do things.

Advice

If you work in a place like I did (a startup farm basically), network as much as possible. If you sit down and eat lunch at work, talk to the people around you, see what they're up to, if you could give them advice or if you could learn from them. I got some business cards and contacts just from simply talking to random people in the break room. Any little conversation could lead to a job in the future.
