Camp Akeela

About Camp Akeela

Akeela is a summer camp community for neurodivergent children and teens. Many of our campers have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD or a similar social communication disorder. Others are undiagnosed and lovingly described as “quirky.” Parents and teachers describe our campers as bright, kind, and creative. Our campers genuinely enjoy interacting with peers and often struggle to make deeper, more meaningful social connections.

“Working with children— especially those with social impairments or difficulties— is incredibly enjoyable due to how immediately fulfilling each day is. Every situation in which you can help a child resolve a conflict or make new friends motivates further involvement due to the changes you see them undergo as they learn and grow.”

“I loved working with the kids and I loved teaching ceramics! My coworkers were interesting and fun and I think I made some life long friends. ”
