Legitimately nothing, this was one of the best experiences of my life.

Camp Counselor

What I liked

Great training and job orientation. Very personal, family environment, with lots of personal support for the counselors. Very generous with time-off, but high expectations for performance when you are working.

What I wish was different

Although this wasn't a problem for me, you are not allowed to have your phone or laptop while you are on camp grounds (although you can bring them for nights/days off). This is very strictly inforced. However, there is a breakroom, where you have occasional access to Netflix/desktops.

Advice

A background in Christianity is definitely advisable for this position, as this is a camp revolving around Christian values, and you are responsible for leading nightly devotionals and participating in chapel services.

What I liked

I liked connecting with other Tech students who were also working here. I just love camp!

What I wish was different

I wish the camp wasn't so far away but they compensated me for travel.

Advice

Being a camp counselor is exhausting, but it's such a rewarding experience! Know what you're getting into before you commit.
