This was a phenomenal way to better my filmmaking skills and boost my portfolio. We were constantly shooting and editing as a team - a great internship for someone wanting to explore video creation more in-depth and is willing to work hard.

Camp Counselor

May - July 2019 • Mount Ida, AR

What I liked

It is the most fulfilling and worth-while experience you could have during a college summer. I loved getting to work at a sports camp that is focused on sharing the message of Christ through athletics and friendships while focusing on a personal relationship with Christ. The people who work here are so incredibly fun and relatable and are genuinely the coolest and most amazing people I have ever met. I have made most of my life-long friends over the 3 summers that I have worked at Ozark.

What I wish was different

Literally nothing.

Advice

If you have the opportunity to spend as little as 4 weeks of your summer at Camp Ozark - there is absolutely nothing I would recommend more. It is so fulfilling and rewarding and there is so much you can learn from teaching kids and speaking with them about their relationship with Christ. Your fellow staff challenge you and push you to become the best version of yourself and you build relationships that last for years after the summer.

Summer Camp Counselor

May 2018 - August 2019 • Mount Ida, AR

What I liked

I loved spending summer detached from the world and in a little town in the middle of nowhere Arkansas. Getting to know 8th and 9th grade girls and seeing them grow and ask questions was incredible.

What I wish was different

I could’ve stayed longer!!!

Advice

It’s hard. You’re tired. You’re exhausted. At times you don’t want to keep going, but the short amount of time you have with kids makes such a tremendous impact on their lives so keep going!

Store Assistant

May - August 2018 • Mount Ida, AR

What I liked

I loved being in the Ozark Mountains and getting to know all of the campers that came into the store.

What I wish was different

The way days off are scheduled are a little weird and phone access could be better on property for workers.

Advice

The hours are long, but the people you meet and work with are worth it.

Lake Crew and Assistant counselor

May - August 2019 • Mount Ida, AR

What I liked

I loved the chance to work with like minded college students and getting to interact with the campers and teaching them water sport skills that I have always been passionate about.

What I wish was different

I wish the management had handled some things a little bit differently but it was hard to interact because the lake crew was fairly independent since we spent so much time away from the camps property.

Advice

Go all in. Don’t be afraid to be a goofball in front of the kids and don’t be afraid to be open to new challenges and tasks that you’re nervous about. I learned a lot about myself and gained valuable life experiences during my summer at Camp Ozark.

What I liked

I liked that it was a Christian based summer camp that allowed me to share my love for sports and the outdoors with kids. I also liked that staff came from not only all over the country but all over the world. There are staff from many different countries and you are exposed to many different cultures.

What I wish was different

Nothing, the camp had so much to offer and it was my second summer so I knew what to expect.

Advice

You have to be selfless and have a passion for kids. You will constantly be around them and have to really enjoy time with children in many different areas.

Nanny

May - July 2019 • Mount Ida, AR

What I liked

I liked the camp itself; it offered so many different activities for the campers. They could do anything from woodshed to lake activities to riding horses.

What I wish was different

I wish Ozark had been transparent with its potential employees about the rigorous work hours and lack of religious curriculum.

Advice

Be prepared for a very long experience in the middle Arkansas. I would make sure to drive there so on your off-days every two weeks you can drive to get your laundry done!

Summer Camp Office Assistant

May - July 2018 • Mount Ida, AR

What I liked

The only thing I enjoyed at this place of work was the people I worked with

What I wish was different

They take away your phone while campers are present. (Two weeks at a time) You only have one day off every two weeks. They didn’t treat their workers with respect. You work from 7am-10pm daily. I would not recommend this place if work

Advice

Understand what you are getting into before accepting this position. Understand you will have no contact to the outside world. Understand they do not listen to your questions or concerns. Understand this place does not treat their employees with respect in a professional environment. This is not a professional environment and I would not recommend.
