Bank Teller

April 2019 • Milwaukie, OR

What I liked

The casual work environment and great team to work with. It was a little more professional and helped me to better understand how to speak with an older generation of people

What I wish was different

Scheduling and work loads.

Advice

Take a chance and experience what it’s like to work with people. Taking care of people’s expenses was hard and rewarding. There were people who would get angry but learning to be more understanding in that helped to build character in my daily life. So giving a chance to working and increasing your experience is almost as important as just going to school.

Software Engineer

June - August 2019 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

The people I got to work with were competent in their fields and I learned a lot from them and my fellow peers.

What I wish was different

The way our project was set up wasn't programmer friendly, and you had to be on the project from the very beginning to fully understand what you're working on. There wasn't a whole lot of comments left in the code explaining what was going on.

Advice

Enjoy it, because although the internship is shorter, you make so many friends.

Associate banker

July 2017 - August 2019 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

I enjoyed the face-to-face interactions with clients and the responsibility of having large amounts of cash under my control.

What I wish was different

I wish my long class schedule for engineering was more organized, because I wasn't able to fit working at the bank during my upper division courses at UTSA.

Advice

If you're degree involves non-negotiable labs to attend once or twice a week or you don't have an organized daily/weekly schedule, it will be difficult to balance work and school hours. It's possible, but only for so long until you are expected to be on campus and the bank in the evenings.
