Advice

Take initiative. I was working on an independent research project most of the time, and it was really up to me to determine what was important and what wasn't. I had to follow leads and reach out to employees both within my organization and outside of it to find information that I needed. Don't be afraid to send the emails and make the calls that will advance your projects. Most people are happy to share their knowledge.

What I liked

I appreciated being able to work with different IT specialist with the city. Networking, Web development, and management were departments that I had the opportunity to work with.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had more overarching projects.

Advice

I would say learn as much as you can from your internship or coop because you can not only get experience but networking opportunities.

What I liked

I loved working with people who identified with both sides of the political spectrum, answering to constituents' immediate needs, doing work for important issues and City priorities, attending City council and committee meetings, supporting my councilwoman, and being able to be a part of outside committees that she was involved in.
