What I liked

I loved working at all the parts of the city including fire and police departments and all the city official buildings, and this was an extremely valuable experience into looking at the working environment.

What I wish was different

i wish I had spent more time doing more difficult tasks, so I could learn from my mistakes and take bigger responsibilities.

Advice

Applying to a city internship is usually very doable, contact your city and many have no experience internships available.

What I liked

I enjoyed working with the public and helping them to find library materials, help them use the computers, and to talk to them. I also enjoyed working with the other volunteers and employees. My favorite part was being surrounded by books and being a part of the library system. I'm an avid reader so being able to be apart of a library system is incredible to me.

What I wish was different

I wish I had applied for the job positions that opened up while i was still in school. I didn't know it would take over a month to actually work there and I could have been earning a wage while learning more about the library system rather than just waiting until I was officially done with school. By then, the positions had closed and when more appeared I had already found another job.

Advice

Prior to volunteering at the library, I had no intention of pursuing any kind of field in library science. However, now that I've being volunteering at the library for over a year I really enjoy and am going back to school to become a medical librarian versus continue with my original plan of becoming a radiology technician. My advice would be that try lots of volunteer work because you can learn a lot , make connections, and discover new interests.

Advice

Lifeguarding is a perfect summer job, you get to be around a lot of people your age, outside by the pool, and while having real responsibilities there is still a very fun atmosphere.
