Life Guard

January 2016 • Portland, OR

What I liked

I liked not having to talk to people constantly and not have customer service be the focus of the job. Along with that, I enjoyed learning life saving skills that can come in handy in the future.

What I wish was different

I wish we had better communication between the other departments in the community center.

Advice

I recommend asking all of the questions you’re wondering about the job and focusing on ensuring patrons stay safe in the pool. Don’t be afraid to bring it to their attention, it could potential ally prevent a major emergency.

What I liked

The internship is a great opportunity to learn the inner workings of the city. I appreciate their flexibility with my school schedule. In the internship, I enjoy shadowing other jobs in the office.

What I wish was different

Honestly, I don't wish anything different. My manager and coworkers are great.

Advice

I definitely say network with other people in the office. This gives you the opportunity to shadow other jobs, learn more about the City's mission, how to conduct yourself in an office and how to work productively while still taking care of your own health.
