Nothing. This was as fulfilling as could be.

Advice

Never underestimate yourself. If a challenge or position seems too big for you, it's only because it's meant to help you grow into the next version of yourself.

Human Services Intern

June - August 2019 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

I got the opportunity to intern on the Homeless Administrator. Through this experience, I was able to learn about how the city and other city coalitions address homelessness in the city of San Antonio. I was also able to contribute to some of the campaigns that were being issued by the department. Thankfully, the staff was very open to my ideas and input and I was able to assist my preceptor and her team tremendously.

I wish I would have gotten to rotate through the different offices in the department to see how they facilitate things.

flexible hours, good pay, and very understandable with students.

Information Technology intern

June - August 2019 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

The whole working environment was great. In this specific internship, we traveled around the city everyday and thats another great aspect amongst many others.

What I wish was different

I don’t wish anything were different. It was a great experience.

Advice

Being an introvert, networking can be tough sometimes but you have to try. It took a lot of me to start a conversation with people, but it was worth it when I did. There are so many networking opportunities, especially working with higher-ups and leaders of the city.

Economic Development Intern

June - August 2019 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

It was a great experience as my first internship because I was able to see what the professional world was like by going to meetings and having input while our department was making big decisions. I was the only intern in my department, so all of the employees were ready and willing to train me one on one and give me tips for all areas of my life, both personal and professional.

What I wish was different

Although working as the only intern definitely had its many perks, I wish that there had been others there to learn from and gain insights from. (I think being the only intern was specific to my department because there were definitely others who had other students with them while working).

Advice

Even if you land an internship in a role you know you do not want to pursue as a career, take every experience as a learning experience because there is definitely so much you can still learn and gain from it!
