Direct Care Counselor

May - August 2019 • Orem, UT

What I liked

The pay was pretty good and we spent a lot of time outside which was fun for the summer. I also learned a lot about working with people with special needs.

What I wish was different

The company is kind of unorganized. A lot of time we were scrambling for things to do with the kids. They also didn't do direct deposit because they were switching banks so that was frustrating.

Advice

I would recommend working here, but just be a ware it is hard work. Be prepared to do hard and sometimes uncomfortable things. However, it is still very rewarding.

Assistant manager

What I liked

It was a fun and exciting experience, and I learned how to help manage employees and learned a lot about effective teamwork.

What I wish was different

Working with upper management was difficult, and it was thought to be caught in the disconnect between upper management and the normal employees

Direct Care Giver

April - July 2019 • Vineyard, UT

What I liked

I loved the clients I got the work with. The hours were also GREAT. 8am-4pm during the summer left a lot of time for me to be able to work out in the mornings and enjoy my summer in the evening.

What I wish was different

TERRIBLE UPPER MANAGEMENT. It was sad to see how the owners of the company had little to no regard for the clients. They lacked leadership tremendously. Did not provide staff with safe vehicles to pick up clients (some lacked seat belts, AC in 95 degree weather, and tires would explode and they would only replace one tire). I was pulled over because a vehicle was not registered and the offense was almost put on my personal record. Very sad experience.

Advice

There are better ways to get amazing experiences with people with special needs if that’s what you are looking for. Look into Chrysalis residential care. I’m sure EATON Alliances residential care is decent as well. But the day site has terrible working and safety conditions and managers do little to nothing to change that. Many times they will ask you to put hundreds of miles on your own vehicle (and drive dangerous clients) because they can’t provide transportation. You only receive decent gas reimbursement if you demand it.
