What I liked

I enjoyed being able to connect, influence, and educate children ranging from ages 5 to 12. I liked being able to aid the camp directors in encouraging an innovative mindset and welcoming environment.

What I wish was different

I wish the organization Galileo would have offered more materials for the campers to work with.

Advice

I advise new employees for this organization to branch out into different areas of the camp.

Team Leader

What I liked

Helped broaden my experience in the teaching field by being able to work with young children.

What I wish was different

I think sometimes being understaffed at a summer camp makes it difficult to manage everything but it went smoothly for the most part.

Advice

Galileo pays well and if you’re looking to go into teaching I recommend the experience at least once.

Summer camp lead instructor

June - July 2019 • Palo Alto, CA

What I liked

It was a fantastic environment with fantastic people! I enjoyed teaching kids so much and seeing them grow over the summer!

What I wish was different

The only thing that wasn’t ideal was my commute; I had to drive ~45 min to work.

Advice

When offers come along, take them! I was scared of taking on the job because I’m a quiet person and wasn’t sure how I’d be in a leadership position but it ended up being my favorite job thus far.

Science Lead Instructor

June - August 2018 • Oakland, CA

What I liked

It was fun. Hung out with some silly kids all day everyday for the summer doing cool science projects that Galileo HQ designed. Play weird games, sing funny songs, and have a goofy summer.

What I wish was different

Getting to make my own projects or changing things up a bit from the cookie cutter Galileo framework.

Advice

If you get drained quickly this is not the job for you, things are always happening and changing. You'll need to adapt and adjust to a lot of things and be able to keep up.
