Gallagher

Sales Intern

June - August 2021 • Brentwood, TN

What I liked

I enjoyed the people I met throughout the 9 week internship. Everyone was extremely welcoming, kind, and willing to help you. Each week we were able to present on different topics in front of our branch's leadership team.

What I wish was different

Nothing, our internship coordinator had a schedule of things to do almost every day. We met with other departments, our mentor, and those that our office did business with.

Advice

Always say yes to learning something new! A saying throughout the internship was "You do not know what you do not know". Sometimes you will learn what you do not know just by watching others work. Take care of your tasks early so that you can help out on different projects/in different areas in the office.

Insurance Sales Intern

June - August 2021 • Rolling Meadows, IL

What I liked

I enjoyed how much I grew both professionally and personally throughout the whole internship experience. I get to experience the role of a sales producer from the beginning to the end. During life a lot of times we are going to hear no from others and things will not go as we expected. I believe it is a great way to take that in our life as well and be prepared for those situations. Communication, being comfortable with being uncomfortable and networking were the main key takeaways other than insurance knowledge I was able to take out of the internship.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to go on actual sales calls. That is a big role of a sales producer and I wish I had the opportunity to experience that. With COVID things have changed and a lot of things have moved online which restricted the feel of the full sales role.

Advice

Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone. It will be worth it! I know this is not easy for everyone and I know it was a challenge for me, but our weekly meetings helped me step out of my comfort zone knowing that I had my fellow interns and mentors with me to support me.

Sales Intern

June - August 2021 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I had an incredible experience with the Gallagher San Diego office this summer. This internship was very hands-on and was a space where I was continually pushed to be better - to learn about the industry. I have always been one who is interested in many different topics and insurance was that industry that satisfied that longing to learn. I felt as though I had many producers and members on the team who were mentoring and challenging me throughout the program to improve my sales, presentation, and learning skills. I am so beyond excited to be returning for a full-time role!

What I wish was different

Due to covid, the program was hybrid and I would love to have seen it fully in person in the future.

Advice

You get out what you put in - ask questions, don't be afraid to reach out to anyone!

Benefits Sales Intern

June - August 2021 • Bloomington, MN

What I liked

I loved the people I worked with and learning about a new industry. I also got to attend client meetings, which was really fun. Gallagher does a really great job at connecting their interns nationally as well. I was flown to Chicago at the end of the summer and met all the Midwest interns, as well as getting to meet Pat Gallagher and other executives. This was a fantastic and super fun experience.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more insight into other parts of the company.

Advice

I would advise people to network as much as possible and to take initiative.

Insurance Sales Intern

June - August 2021 • Rolling Meadows, IL

What I liked

I liked the ability to network with interns, executives, producers and leaders within the company. Over the course of the 9 week program, we focused on building presentation skills through weekly prompts about the insurance industry. I also got to shadow virtual and onsite meetings with producers as well as internal meetings.

What I wish was different

The internship was phenomenal. Dedicated weeks of going into the different branch offices would have been a great experience to shadow different teams that work on different size accounts.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is to put yourself out there to learn and engage with the employees and other interns. Everyone wants to help and provide insight or tips for success, so jump at any and all opportunities to do so. Being a sponge is important in an industry with a variety of moving parts and endless opportunities for change.

Sales Intern

June - July 2020 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

The people were great. I enjoyed working with a group of people who seemed very intelligent, and took the time to invest in my development. Almost everyone tried to include me in their schedule at some point during the internship, and teach me something new.

What I wish was different

This past summer was virtual, which I wish I was able to be in the office.

Advice

The people are so willing to help, just open yourself up to ask any questions. There are so many opportunities to develop yourself here, so give it your all.
