Medical Research Assistant

June - August 2018 • Manassas, VA

What I liked

I liked the people and the work. My mentors, Dr. Shane Caswell and Patricia Kelshaw, were both incredible teachers and gave me a greater understanding about the process of conducting research and what it takes in terms of coordination equipment, data tracking and data analysis along with the continuous conversation required to make sure the data is explored thoroughly.

What I wish was different

I wish that there was a little more clinical activity I could have been involved in, interacting with more patients or subjects, but that just wasn't in the cards unfortunately.

Advice

Virginia is hot and the rain comes and goes with a fervor. Always have a rain jacket. I don't know. Advice about this experience is tough to give. I guess buy in. Makes the work more enjoyable and engaging.
