Ghetto Film School

Film Teacher

May - September 2019 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I loved working with talented and driven young students. Their passion for film was unmatched, even when compared to some college students. It re-sparked my imagination and gave me new hope for my future as a filmmaker.

What I wish was different

There weren't enough people on staff. I had to wear a lot of hats. In addition to being a teacher, I was an administrator, production coordinator, mentor coordinator, guest coordinator, etc... The list goes on. A lot of times, I had to put my lesson plan to the side in order to coordinate something new happening that day. The student's education suffered because of that on certain occasions.

Advice

When applying for this job, they will tell you it is part-time, it is not! If you are willing to not only teach, but also coordinate many things for the school, you will love this job. But it is most certainly a FULL-TIME job. Between teaching and taking my classes at LMU, it made for a stressful summer, albeit a meaningful one.
