Give Kids The World

What I liked

I truly enjoyed providing assistance to the guests at Give Kids the World. My team works in the restaurant/ dining area. I have had the pleasure of assisting Guests with getting silverware and drinks, accompanying them to an open table to enjoy their meal as a family, working behind the salad and fruit food line (replenishing items and assisting Guests with choices), cleaning tables, and greeting Guests and guiding them through this experience from their entry to their exit. It is amazing to see how grateful these very special Guests are for our assistance and time. My favorite part is putting a smile on their faces.

What I wish was different

Absolutely nothing! This is a rewarding experience for me, and well worth the time I spend there. These Guests are celebrating life with children that may not be around much longer due to terminal illness. They deserve a truly relaxing getaway together. It is my pleasure to be a small part of their hopefully amazing vacation.

Advice

My advise is to seek out an opportunity to give back. Whether you go to Give Kids the World or choose to volunteer somewhere else, you will never forget how incredible it feels to help those in need. It's the least we can do and it is a very rewarding life lesson and experience. It's important to give back. Take some time to make it happen, you won't be sorry!

What I liked

Being able to help by giving them the hope of actually going out in the world and to know what it means to have dreams. Knowing that I could greatly impact the community was such a rewarding experience since this helps spread the word on children everywhere can live filled with hope.

What I wish was different

I did not have any concerns with the experience.

Advice

I focused on providing accommodation and service at the pool (Park of Dreams) and serving food during breakfast time on the weekends. Over the years I learned from many of the people who worked there and it's the residents who taught me that even if you are presented with obstacles, don't think limited in doing the things you want to do.

The families and staff were super nice.

What I wish was different

I wish it was a bit closer, and some of the buildings play their music too loud.

Advice

Go for it! It's worth it.
