Web Usability Intern

May - October 2018 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

I liked learning the vast network required to keep government services available and relevant. I also liked being able to apply my web development skills in a professional setting.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have started using trello to keep myself organized earlier in the summer.

Advice

Find a way to say yes to opportunities and to ask if there is room to help someone else even if they aren't working on the same project.

Office specialist

What I liked

The people I worked with were extremely resourceful and patient. I was able to network not only in my area, but in many others around the county. This allowed me to explore careers that I had never been exposed to before, and meet people who have now become mentors for me

Student Worker

May - August 2018 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

I loved all of my coworkers and the intern program that the 4th district had set up for us. We got to experience all the different facets of the court system, including a tour of the jail. The experience of working in an office and downtown was very valuable to me as well.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a little bit more to do. Sometimes the day would get a little slow, especially towards the end of the week.

Advice

Take advantage of opportunities to shadow! Shadowing other departments in the county is a great way to learn about what you do and don’t want to do.

Residential Appraisal Intern

May - August 2018 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

I loved this internship because it allowed me to learn more about myself, my career interests, AND future career opportunities in the industry. I also got out of the office to do real, in-field work (that a full time, certified appraiser would do) for a a majority of the summer which was nice because it felt like more than just another office job.

What I wish was different

I spent a majority of the summer on two or three projects so it would have been nice to have a larger variety of tasks/projects.

Advice

With this job, hard work definitely pays off. The harder you work, the more you get to experience in the field, which is always rewarding.
