community living support

August 2018 • Allendale, MI

What I liked

I love the residents in the community that I work with. You build such an amazing bond with them that it breaks your heart when you have to leave them. Also- being a community living support you get a lot of independence and freedom. If you don't like working directly with a supervisor and you're independent yourself this would be a great fit! However, there are strict rules and regulations to ensure you don't take advantage of that freedom! All of the staff and supervisiors here are awesome!!

What I wish was different

Nothing!

Advice

Please only apply if you are serious about working with this population of individuals and you're patient. They deserve nothing but the best care and the best people to provide that. If youre doing it for the money then this isn't the position for you.

Direct Care Professional/Lead Staff

August 2017 • Coopersville, MI

What I liked

The coworkers, management, and working closely with the clients. Everyone is great with working around school and other obligations.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to work there over the summer. I was job shadowing a lot, which took away from working more hours.

Advice

I would highly recommend working in this field because it builds patience and opened my eyes to the lives of people with disabilities.
