Herrero Builders Incorporated

Project Engineering Intern

June - August 2022 • Walnut Creek, CA

What I liked

I loved the experience and knowledge gained during this internship. It was amazing to be on a construction site everyday. I even got to go on a roof! The company was also very friendly. We would have virtual events on how to be better coworkers to one another. Also, team lunches were awesome! This gave me the chance to get to know some engineers and superintendents. Overall, it was a lovely experience working at Herrero!

What I wish was different

I do wish that I had more conversations with different people at the company. I also wish that I had more time.

Advice

I would say take advantage of this opportunity. The time flies by quick! Everyday is a chance to show who you are and what you can bring to the company. Also, don't forget that this is a learning experience, mistakes are totally okay. Don't let fear, anxiety, or nervousness hold you back from your full experience. And remember to always have fun! Here are some pieces of advice that I took from a superintendent at Herrero : 1. Always find three solutions to one problem. 2. Relationships are everything. Good luck! And have a wonderful experience! You got this!

Project Engineer Intern

June - August 2017 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I was an intern on the VNC Sutter Health Hospital in SF. I really liked being a part of such a large and well executed project. This was my first internship and I learned so much! All of the people were really nice and I was given real tasks to help the team. They understood what I could handle with my level of experience and then also challenged me so that I was pushing myself. By the end of the summer I was running my own meetings and organizing sub-contractors.

What I wish was different

I wish Herrero had more intern bonding events. I would have liked the chance to get to know other interns on different teams.

Advice

Always ask questions! You are there to learn so speak up and talk to everyone.
