Hindman Auctions

Couture/ Rover Intern

May - September 2017 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I enjoyed the pace, and that there were goals targeted for my work every day. Hindman's expansive collection is one of a kind in Chicago, which helped me to understand culture to market value of some similar pieces that I had only seen on paper. Together, the atmosphere and employees helped me to understand how an auction house operates and what is expected of their employees. I found our interdepartmental meetings with other interns to be helpful too in terms of how each department contributes to house profits and performance.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be ready to be dedicated to your work and utilize creative solutions. There are some repetitive tasks when working in couture so be ready to focus in order to get consignments in the catalog, update email lists, and record auctions (my personal favorite).

Account Executive Intern

What I liked

I loved that I was able to pursue my interests in the arts, they gave me a wide variety of projects as well.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a bit more structure to the internship and that I was able to learn more about the art itself which I was handling.

Advice

Be thorough in your work and always ask for help if needed.
