Idaho Department of Fish and Game

Fisheries technician

April - September 2020 • Pocatello, ID

What I liked

The work was awesome and I met some great people. There was a wide variety of work and opportunity to build on my resume in several aspects.

What I wish was different

I was surprised at the lack of communication and training that I received, which often became the point of any conflict at work.

Advice

The more I work for IDFG the more I realize that there's so much you can do within the department. If you did not enjoy some aspects of the job, try something different next year. If anything you will come out with a stronger resume in the end.

Sage Grouse Technician

April - August 2019 • Idaho Falls, ID

What I liked

LOTS of relevant experience; became proficient in skills such as plant identification, database usage, and telemetry

What I wish was different

I do not have any suggestions for this position. I think it is perfect for students seeking relevant work experience in wildlife or range management fields.

Advice

ALWAYS ask for and take opportunities to gain relevant experience. In this job, plenty of opportunities to diversify your resume are available. At the end of this position, I went from having a resume with no relevant experience to one that now qualifies me for positions and internships with state and federal agencies.
