JEA

Summer Co-Op Intern

May - August 2019 • Jacksonville, FL

What I liked

I was truly excited to explore a career for my major that I did not consider prior to and now this is something I want to do after receiving my Bachelor's! I loved the unpredictability with the Incident Response team. As an Environmental Science major, assessing different situations in the community, having a true impact on the environment and the people surrounding, is powerful. I also loved how my supervisors allowed me to work in other areas I was interested in including the Biology Lab. For the second half of the program I worked with Environmental Permitting and Compliance. I gained so much knowledge about the importance of this department. I also drove a boat on the St. Johns River! I earned my Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response certification as well. My overall experience at JEA opened my eyes completely. I never knew I could learn that much material, gain that much experience, and connect with that many people in 12 weeks.

What I wish was different

I enjoyed every aspect of my internship, so there is nothing that I wish to be different.

Advice

One piece of advice that I would share about my experience is to remain to have an open mind throughout the 12 weeks. From working in your department, to the trainings we Co-Ops would have, one needs to be ready to absorb different ideas and techniques for doing various tasks.

What I liked

I liked the JEA Co-op program because it introduced into the city utilities field of work. More specifically I worked on the water treatment side and learned all about the water treatment process for the city of Jacksonville.

What I wish was different

Nothing, i worked hard and learned in the process.

Advice

Always keep an open mind when starting an internship. There is a lot to learn and it offers a great experience in your selective field.
