Camp Counselor

May 2018 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

I enjoyed leading the groups of children in different activities. I feel like this was definitely my favorite job I've had so far because of the leadership role I was required to have and the bonds I made with all the children throughout the summer. Overall, this experience helped me branch out and make more connections while doing something that was very enjoyable.

What I wish was different

I only wished that there were more physically active activities for the children to participate in. Some days it seemed like they would be sitting down all day and that would give them way too much energy and they became more of a hassle to keep them on task.

Advice

One piece of advice I'd like to share is in order to have fun being a camp counselor, you have to still have a little kid inside you. That's why I feel like I was able to enjoy being a camp counselor so much. It's because I had fun leading the children through each activity.

What I liked

I loved the children I got to work with and getting to experience new teaching styles of the other professionals.

What I wish was different

I wish the class size had been smaller so I would have been able to absorb more of the teaching tactics and behavior management techniques.

Advice

At times the job can get overwhelming and may seen like "babysitting" but if you pay enough attention there was something to learn form every interaction.
