Office Furniture Center

Marketing Intern

June - September 2021 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I loved that I had the opportunity to help the company increase its e-commerce sales. I used marketing concepts I learned in class and applied it to my time at Office Furniture Center. I loved that I wasn’t being micromanaged and the managers trusted me to complete the assignments with my own discretion. I loved working on paid ad campaigns and SEO.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could have produced better results for the company. I did what I genuinely could to my knowledge, but I don’t think it was enough. It was my first internship so I can give myself credit for taking a major leap in my career.

Advice

Understanding how social media and online marketplaces work are key for this internship!

Marketing Associate

July 2016 - March 2017 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

It is a smaller company so you have the opportunity to learn skills outside your role. As a marketing associate: I created a social media presence, practiced content-creating skills using Adobe Creative Cloud and photography equipment, wrote copy, audited the online store including updating the meta description which gave me experience with Magento, Wordpress and NetSuite. Also, learned how to use project management tools like Asana.

What I wish was different

The marketing manager was also the sales manager, so I had to be a self-starter. The feedback I received was often delayed.

Advice

Don't be afraid to say, "I don't know how to do that, but I can find out!"
