Quadrant Biosciences, Inc.

Engineering R&D Intern

June - August 2018 • Syracuse, NY

What I liked

The start-up culture was a stand-out experience for me. I knew my coworkers from the previous summer, and worked closely with the engineering team this summer. I enjoyed pursuing several projects rather independently, and updating my supervisor while bouncing ideas off of him and others. I developed great MATLAB skills while understanding FDA approval processes as my company was re-filing. Ultimately, I admire and respect the work of the company and its employees tremendously.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have been more involved in the wet lab and epigenetic research the company does. I mostly worked on the computer with MATLAB analyzing data and writing algorithms based on data from a sensor the company developed for use in balance assessment.

Advice

I would say as an intern, you're there to learn more than anything. Ask questions about others' work, be proactive and dive into your projects, and don't be afraid to ask for additional roles.
