Rekerdres & Sons Insurance Agency, Inc.

Intern

January 2023 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

Everyone here was very welcoming right from the start. All questions I had were answered clearly, and I was never in dilemma regarding what I should be doing for the day. There was always effective communication in the work space. Coming here as a student-athlete with 18 credits this semester I was nervous thinking about how I would manage my time between work, school, and my sport. Rekerdres & Sons always made it clear to me that there would be no issue regarding taking time off for school, and they were happy to accommodate with my busy schedule. There was a period early on working here when my school laptop gave out on me suddenly. I needed a laptop for school asap. I had told my coworkers what had happened with my laptop, and without any hesitation I was offered one of the company's unused laptops. This just really highlights the friendly. selfless work environment here. An unforgettable gesture by them.

What I liked

Rekerdres and Sons is a wonderful place for anyone to work. Here, you will find a group of friendly coworkers that don't hesitate to answer your questions. As a student, I found it very helpful that they are willing to accommodate to my turbulent academic schedule. I also appreciate the generosity of my peers around the office. I'm treated every day to free premium coffee from the clients of the company, and the interns are sometimes treated to lunch.

Advice

This position requires you to be very detail oriented. It's very easy to miss things if you aren't careful. If hired, for the first few weeks I suggest making a checklist for each report you do to make sure you don't miss anything. Also, don't hesitate to ask questions. It's a little complex at first so don't feel like you have to figure it all out by yourself.

What I liked

The company environment truly encourages learning and growth, you are able to work on projects and help around the office where needed- which is great in that you are given the opportunity to learn and be active in what the company does. Everyone is so friendly and willing to teach you if you don't know something. This internship taught me to become much more detail-oriented and to create high expectations for myself.

What I wish was different

Nothing! It was a great learning experience.

Advice

Take detailed notes and ask questions if you do not know something. Always double-check your work and be thorough.

Intern

April 2020 - January 2021 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

The company culture intentionally cultivates employee growth by means of thoroughly teaching their employees and thus expecting excellent work. The management is fair, courteous, and generous. During my internship, I learned more than I had expected about the marine insurance world, and, more broadly, about the importance of good company culture which Rekerdres had in spades. Overall, I loved my time at Rekerdres, and would highly recommend it.

What I wish was different

Nothing; I thoroughly enjoyed my time.

Advice

I would take many, detailed notes to look at when doing individual projects; taking notes was very helpful.

Claims Intern

January - May 2021 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

I liked everything about this internship. The people are great, the job environment is friendly, and there is a lot of valuable things to learn if you make an effort.

What I wish was different

Nothing, I am incredibly happy with my experience.

Advice

ASK QUESTIONS! This is not an internship that is going to be entirely intuitive. In order to be successful, you must get comfortable with the fact that there are things that you don't know, and the only way to learn is to ask. If you do that, and work hard, you should have no problem finding success and learning valuable lessons.
