The whole experience was very rewarding, I was exposed to the world of academic research for the first time and I realized that it is something I enjoyed so much that I plan to pursue a Ph.D.

I just would say to remember that every family that comes by the office is new and treat them as such. Enjoy your time with them and they will enjoy their time with you.

What I liked
I liked that I was able to mentor a group of incoming Freshmen and teaching them how things work at a university. I was also able to build great relationships with all of them. The best part was seeing them grow throughout the summer.
What I wish was different
I wish that our staff had been better at communication. We kept a lot to ourselves and that wasn't the right thing to do but we got the job done and we are all proud of each other.
Advice
One piece of advice is to be patient with the freshmen. They are all for the most part stuck in high school mode and don't know how things work at university's. They will grow and learn from their mistakes. The one thing you must do is guide them in the right direction.

What I liked
I had an amazing opportunity to do hands on research which in this lab tended to be very active and or physical due to the nature of my work. The job also required creative problem solving ability and I quickly found myself working outside of my comfort zone but in a very good way. Also I became comfortable with data analysis and general record keeping. I greatly enjoyed my time there and look forward to my continuation with the position.
